Lifestyle: Watercolor Painting as a Hobby

Dear Alice,

Today I would like to present you some of my watercolor paintings that I made a couple of years ago. As you already know it by now, drawing is one of my hobbies. Along with oil painting, watercolor painting occupies a special place in my spare time and in my heart of course.

So today we will explore together the hidden mysteries of watercolor painting, that I discovered over the time, while mixing watercolor tones on paper and thus exploring the hidden part of this activity. From my point of view watercolor painting is an extremely exciting hobby! After you start to master the mixing of water-based pigments in water and to produce your own effects and painting strategies, well there is nothing else left for you to do, then practice it over and over again.

“But isn’t this difficult? How should one know how mixing of water-based pigments with water really works?” Well, you are right to have some doubts or questions about that. And I must tell you: you are only partially right, as it is not exactly difficult, but I cannot say it is easy. It is simply one of those experiences you have to try before saying whether you like it or not. It is as simple as that. But once you tried it and you enjoyed it, it is quite difficult to stop practicing it.

I remember my first watercolor paintings lectures I had 4 years ago in Berlin, one of the biggest creative cultural Metropolises in the world. It was my official start in the art of watercolor painting. And it definitely paid of! Even though the activity was quite challenging in the beginning, and I was a novice in the art of mixing colors and of producing water color effects on paper, I kept practicing as I really enjoyed the activity.

The challenge in watercolor painting is definitely mastering the usage of water in your drawing: whether it is too much or too less water, and not the proper amount, this will break the scenery you were trying to produce, so you must be thorough and precise! This is exactly what I love about this activity. It is very accurate, so you must be armed with a lot of patience and determination. But the results are most of the time unexpected and wonderful! And not to mention: one of a kind!

Here’s hoping you will enjoy some pieces of watercolor paintings I put together in the last couple of years. If you will ever have the chance, you should give this particular activity a try, as you never know what the outcome will be.
Sincerely yours,
madalina
