Travel Guide: Madeira Best Attractions: Cristo del Rey Statue and Beach
Dear Alice,
Here goes our Madeira adventure further, and this time with the beautiful Cristo del Rey beach and statue in the wonderful area of Miradouro, Garajau. A unique place in Madeira where you can enjoy the nature and its wonders and where you will once again agree that nature is a gift, a gift that we ought to appreciate and to protect.
In order to reach Cristo del Ray from Funchal you will either have to rent a car and drive to this place yourself, rent a taxi (there are plenty of taxis in Funchal and its surroundings area), or take the bus (still be aware that you will have to carefully check the buses schedule so as to have the right arrival and departures times). From all of the above options, I would opt for the first one, just as in our case. Renting a car for reaching Cristo del Rey in Maradouro, Garajau from the city of Funchal is the best option in my opinion. In this way, you can plan the trip according to your own schedule and wishes/desires.
Located not far away from Funchal (it takes about 30 to 40 minutes with the car to reach Cristo del Rey), this area will offer you a magnificent view on the Atlantic ocean and on the Madeira island itself. In addition you will get the chance to admire the impressive Christ statue that guards the island and that welcomes the visitors to enjoy the imposing islands and its wonders.
You also have the chance to use the cable car and reach the beach from Cristo del Rey, where you can enjoy the wonderful sea water and the sunrays for a wonderful morning or afternoon. I have to admit we did not get down to the beach, since we had a hiking day planned for our trip, but this can be a wonderful alternative for spending the day at Cristo del Rey. And to convince you of this wonderful place and its wonders, just take a look at the selected pictures below and do not forget to let me your impressions if you feel like it.
Till our next encounter have a great time and sincerely yours,
Madalina
