Top 10 List: Best Movies to Watch in 2018

Dear Alice,

Long time no hear, I have to say that I kind of felt like on the roller-coaster these 3 past months of this year. A roller-coaster full of surprises and challenges for sure. Sorry though for being absent for so long, time is passing extremely fast lately, with no excuses for me for not grasping its relativity. But anyway, here I am again ready to impress you with some of my further every day life experiences so far.

So today I would like to share with you the “Top 10 List of the Best Movies to Watch in 2018”. Why this topic? you might ask. Very good question, and the answer is that I recently viewed an extremely good movie in the cinema in the last days and thus I thought to make a summary for you on the best movies to watch in 2018. It may be that not all of my suggestions are brand new movies, but it is rather a mixture of movies from recent years and from the not so recent years. Anyway I hope this list will inspire you as it inspired me.
So here it goes, the “Top 10 List: Best Movies to Watch on 2018”:

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017): Unfortunately this Star Wars did not make the top 10 of my list, and I am not very surprised by this. Still, since I am a Star Wars fan, this movie had to come on my list (one way or another). Yes if you are a Star Wars fan, you will probably want to see this movie, which is better that its predecessor, but still in my opinion is not a Star Wars movie. It has a lot of gaps for a Star Wars epic as I see it, and well for me as a girl that waited for so many years for the next Jedi Woman, this performance and interpretation is far away from what I expected (for me Jyn Erso from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is more of the Woman Jedi that I was expecting for than Rey from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is). But well, I am looking forward for the spin off this year.
  2. Alien: Covenant (2017): If you saw the other “Aliens” movies, you will definitely want to see this movie. If not, I can recommend it to you, if you like science fiction movies, and good special effects. The movie is pretty good, but of course in my opinion the first “Alien” movie cannot be equaled or beaten. Even with all of the good special effects. But that is just me. Just watch the “Covenant” and you can decide on your own.
  3. Ghost in the Shell (2017): I definitely liked Scarlet Johansson in this movie: her performance for sure, and her interpretation of the character. Other than this, the subject is quite expected, but still goes on my list for the female power and for the basic idea of bringing artificial intelligence to a very advance level of existence in the movie.
  4. Wonder Woman (2017): A Superhero movie that surprised me in a very pleasant way! I was never a fan of Wonder Woman, still after this movie (even though I still believe that I imagined Wonder Woman to be a bit more muscular to perform those battle she did), I can say I trust Wonder Woman to fight a war with Captain America on her side. They are definitely complementary in one way or another.
  5. Baywatch (2017): Even though a remake about the well-know Baywatch, I do like the movie very much: it is funny, it is easy, it is just a movie to watch and to enjoy. And you better watch out: you will definitely laugh at this movie, and enjoy the soundtrack as well.
  6. Fury (2014): If you like any stories about the “World War 2”, this is the movie for you. And even if you don’t like any stories about the “World War 2”, this is the movie for you. It is a movie about what people do to survive in extreme situations, and about what good people do to survive and to help each other in extreme situations. It is definitely a must-see (and Brad Pitt’s performance is definitely a must see as well).
  7. What Happened to Monday? (2017): This is another great movie that I liked and that I totally recommend. We watched it on a Sunday evening, and I must say that the mixture between thriller and science fiction is just pure brilliance in this movie. It is one of those movies that get you thinking the whole time, and that will have you surprised until the very last moment.
  8. Arrival (2016): I never got to see “Arrival” in 2016, but I have to say that this is a movie you have to see. It is a science fiction movie, so its main topics are the extraterrestrial life and any kind of contact with the Planet Earth, but still the movie has a very original way of treating those 2 contemporary subjects. Yes I will not make any spoilers anymore, it will ruin the unexpected or the expected.
  9. Thor: Ragnarok (2017): Yes, yet another superhero movies in my list. Well, what can I say I just love superheros. After all we are all super heroes in our every day lives, we are all capable of change, and of helping the others around us, we (just as super heroes) have our strengths and our weaknesses, that we value and that make us who we are. This is a great adventure and action movie, that will bring a lot of smiles to your face, that you will just enjoy and that will definitely make your evening better.
  10. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017): I must say I was pleasantly impressed by Jumanji, this year when we saw it in the cinema! I knew it was a remake, but still after seeing it, I can definitely say: it is a very original and present remake of the old Jumanji movie. The plot is both intricate and simple, complex and easy, funny and full of adrenaline shots: a group of teenagers get suspended during what seemed to look like yet another high-school day in their life (for different reasons), and while they are living their suspension they get trapped into the virtual “Jumanji” computer game in the very same characters that they chose to play with. In this way they get embarked into an unexpected adventure, where they have to survive and to solve the ultimate Jumanji enigma in order to run for their live, to escape and to return back to their lives. Don’t miss this movie, it will keep you energized for a long time after seeing it and it will make you want to see it again! You will also love the soundtrack for sure, just some spoilers “Welcome to the Jungle” from Guns N’ Roses and “Baby I love your Way” from Big Mountain made it on my favorite music list after watching this movie.
  11. Black Panther (2018): Great performances, great special effects, the screenplay and the direction are just brilliant, and not to mention the subjects of the “Black Panther” are more than contemporary. Placed in a fictional reality, where an advance civilization uses secret advanced technology to help the contemporary civilization to know and to assimilate “a better way of living together in peace and harmony”, the movie touches several sensitive topics from our contemporary society, among which: the female power, the future is female, sharing of resources between countries independent of their status in order to bring a better balance in the world. A movie that will get you thinking for a long time and that will definitely convince you that it touched a subject that it is about to become quite present! Do watch “Black Panther” if only for the special effects, it is a delight!

There it is: my list of best movies to watch in 2018. If you did not have the chance to see these movies in the cinema, you can easily access them via the Apple TV for instance for a fee of course (except Jumanji and Black Panther, which are quite new and still only run in cinema). I just loved “Black Panther”, we just watched it in the weekend! And I can only say: wow, what a piece of art!

I wish you a great week and till our next encounter: dont’t forget to keep smiling!
Sincerely yours,
Madalina
