Dear Alice,

Today I would like to share with you other delicious recipe of homemade pizza with bananas, turkey ham and vegetables. This is a recipe we came along after several trials and errors experiments, and after enjoying different pizza dishes while traveling to different destinations.

INGREDIENTS (2 Pizzas)

  • For the dough:
    • 500 grams Flour
    • 1 Pack of Dry Yeast (or normal Yeast, around 40 grams)
    • 300 ml Water (at the room temperature, not too cold)
    • 1 Spoon Honey
    • 1 Teaspoon Salt
    • 4 Spoons of Olive Oil (of high quality)
  • For the Tomatoes Sauce:
    • 250-300 grams Tomato Sauce
    • 2 Garlic Cloves
    • 2 Spoons Olive Oil
    • Pinch of Salt
    • Pinch of Pepper
    • Pinch of Brown Sugar, around 1/2 Teaspoon
    • Basil Fresh (or Dry) Leaves, around 1 Teaspoon
    • Oregano Fresh (or Dry) Leaves, around 1 Teaspoon
  • For the topping:
    • 300 grams Turkey Ham
    • 2 Packs of Mozzarella Cheese (i.e. around 300-400 grams)
    • 1 Banana (the secret ingredient, inspired from a delicious Pizza eaten in Madeira)
    • 300 grams Corn
    • 200 grams Black Olives (Unsalted)

PREPARATION

  1. For the dough: Mix the flour with the salt in bowl. In the middle add the dry yeast, the honey, the water and the olive oil and mix the ingredients with the mixer until you get a compact pizza dough. Cover the pizza dough with a moist kitchen towel and leave the dough rest for at least 30 minutes (if possible more). After the resting time, the dough should at least double its size.
  2. For the tomatoes sauce: Peel the garlic cloves and cut them in small pieces. Add the olive oil in a heated pan, add the garlic in the pan and fry it for a couple of minutes. Add the tomatoes sauce while mixing all the ingredients. Add the salt, the pepper, the basil, the oregano and the brown sugar to the sauce and leave it boil for a couple of minutes. Remove the sauce from the stove and leave it cool. When adding the tomatoes sauce on the pizza dough, this should be cold.
  3. For the topping: Peel the banana and cut it in small pieces. Cut the mozzarella and the olives in small pieces as well.
  4. From the pizza dough you can form 2 pizzas for 2 oven baking trays. Add baking paper to the baking tray and then add the pizza dough to the baking tray (you can either use your hands or the kitchen rolling pin to form the pizza dough base, as it is easier for you). For handling the pizza dough in the baking tray use olive oil if needed (and not flour).
  5. Add the tomatoes sauce to the pizza dough in the baking tray.
  6. Add the turkey ham on top of the tomatoes sauce, then the mozzarella pieces. Continue with adding the bananas, the corn and the olives on the pizza dough.
  7. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven (at 210 grade Celsius) for around 20-25 minutes or until the pizza gets a golden color.
