Mom’s Journal: Morning Baby’s Puree and Finger Food Recipes

Dear Alice,

Here is a list of useful morning baby’s puree recipes you can prepare for your baby, that I hope you will find helpful. I know I do!

Do not forget that every child is different and that every child has different needs concerning eating habits and eating preferences. In addition your baby will probably have different eating habits every day, so do not expect your baby to eat today the same way as she/he ate yesterday (still if this happens that is okay), what I want to say is that you should be open and roll with the flow and do not worry. Most importantly follow your mother instincts (yes, they are there).

Also do not forget that just as anything concerning your baby’s journey the eating process and the eating habits of your baby need time until your baby will get used to her/his own routine. So be patient and do not give up. The WHO (World Health Organization) and the general view is that a baby should eat by the end of her/his first year 3 main meals (morning, afternoon, evening) and 2 snacks (morning and afternoon). Transitioning from breastfeeding to solid food (in the form of either puree or finger food, depending on your baby’s teeth and eating possibilities) is another issue that I do not cover here. Still for a good reference in this direction I recommend the following source (it helped me a lot and I find it very good): https://www.hipp.de/beikost/ratgeber/ernaehrungsplan/

From my experience so far, we have at present for our 11 months old baby 3 mail meals (in the form of puree or even solid food, this is pretty much what we eat, except for the morning main meal when our baby gets also a bottle of milk), and 2 snacks (either puree or finger food). How much each baby eats for every meal is very different, just notice and observe your baby’s needs and reactions. In our case the main meals have around 150-180 grams each, whereas the snacks have around 130-150 grams each. Still each baby is different and you should guide yourself after your baby needs. As long as your baby gains in weight and the regular doctor’s appointments with your baby are going okay, you should not worry. Please address any medical questions or concerns directly to your doctor’s.

For preparing the puree I find of great use the following steamer and blender, one of the best investments so far in my opinion:

Summary: Remember that every baby is different and you should guide yourself depending on your baby’s reactions and needs. As an example, the meal plan for our 11 old months baby looks like these (below you find the recipes), which could give you some ideas:
Morning Main Meal
Morning Snack
Noon Main Meal
Afternoon Snack
Evening Main Meal

I will cover here the morning main meal and snacks recipes, with short references to the evening main meal, and in the next post I will cover the noon main meal recipes and the afternoon snack recipes.
