Lifestyle: Drawing as a Hobby

Dear Alice,

Long time no hear! Sorry for that, but here I am ready to share some of my world with you. So today I would like to talk to you about one of my other addiction: and that is drawing. Drawing as a hobby, drawing as a therapy, drawing as a way of calming myself and my inner spirit, drawing as a method of finding my inner peace, drawing as a challenge and nonetheless drawing as a recreational activity.

So I will begin with the beginning. When did I start drawing? That is a very good question indeed, but I must be straight and tell you that I cannot answer this question, since I cannot really remember anymore when did I start drawing…It must have been when I was in school. I remember we use to have this drawing lesson like 2 times per week, when we, the children, were supposed to make a drawing based on a certain weekly theme. I remember I used to enjoy the lessons, but among all the other subjects I had to learn for at that time, drawing came in far beyond.

That’s life I guess. Years passed, and while in high-school and at the university, I mainly focused to improve and to master my majors, and so I lost contact with drawing and all of its surroundings: pen, pencil, watercolor, or brushes.

But since life is very unpredictable and we never know what the future holds for us, my new home Graz brought back my old lost friend: drawing! And I am really grateful for that. You must know that Graz is a wonderful city, where culture and lifestyle have a very big impact on the city itself and its inhabitants as well. So here in the heart of the artistic lifestyle, I have found my lost connection to drawing. And I must say I am happy about it.

I now try to find time as often as possible to draw, and to improve my drawing skills. I like drawing as it brings a state of calmness, of creation and of relaxation into my days and my life. And that feels lovely! I attached some of my drawings to this post, together with the small stories behind every drawing. I hope you enjoy them!

Sincerely yours,
madalina

“Fantastic Horse”, Pencil on Paper, Madalina Hodorog, 2014. I made this drawing after becoming a great fan of the “Game of Thrones” television series and books. This drawing depicts a fantastic horse, which is a mixture between a horse and a dragon. It mainly represents the mixture of beauty, free spirit and survival instinct (represented by the horse), with the strength, the power and the untamed soul (represented by the dragon).
