Travel Guide: Rovinj, Croatia

Dear Alice,

Today I would like to present you with a useful travel guide of the beautiful city of Rovinj in Croatia. Situated in Istria, the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea, Rovinj will definitely amaze you with its unique charm, with its authentic allure, with its historical monuments, and of course with its amazing panoramic views.

Best Time To Visit.

The best time to visit Rovinj, Croatia is in my opinion either in spring, late summer or autumn. Since it is a very popular historical city, Rovinj is most of the time (and especially in summer) the heart of the touristic attractions in Croatia. Rovinj is a city that will impress you in a pleasant way especially if you plan to escape the busy life of the crowded cities for a couple of days. While a temporary inhabitant of this beautiful city, you will feel transposed in another dimension. The old traditions were kept alive for a long time in Rovinj, and thus you will be impressed by all the different facets of the beautiful city.

Cost and Expenses.

Rovinj is not necessarily an expensive city in my opinion. The food and the accommodation are quite decent and you will have a wide range of choices concerning both. The food is extremely tasty and delicious, you can choose any fresh fish and/or seafood dish, or any other traditional meat base dish such as cevapcici or grill meat platter. The prices for the food are also quite acceptable I would say, just take care of the very touristic places, where some extreme cases can appear, but this can be the case when visiting any other touristic destination as well. The accommodation options are split between the modern apartments and the traditional ones. You can choose to book the apartments either via booking.com or by directly contacting the owner. Just make sure to apply early enough for a free spot, the city is most of the time quite crowded.

Best Things to Do in Rovinj.

  1. Visit the Old City. The Old City will surprise you with its medieval charm, with its traditional buildings and with its one-of-a-kind allure. This is also a great opportunity for you to get to know the history of the city and to enjoy some very amazing panoramic views.
  2. Visit the St. Euphemia Cathedral. From the Old City you can easily reach the St. Euphemia Cathedral, where you will not only enjoy some wonderful views of the Adriatic Sea, but you will also be amazed by the architecture and by the history of the Cathedral. The history of St. Euphemia is quite intricate and interesting, here is more on the legend of St. Euphemia.
  3. Visit the Rovinj Harbor and Port. You can reach the Rovinj Harbor and Port directly from the St. Euphemia Cathedral and either enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner, or just an ice-cream or a tasty desert. Also you can definitely enjoy here some amazing sunsets if you get the chance to.
  4. Visit the Rovinj Clock Tower. With a unique architecture, the Rovinj Clock Tower is definitely a touristic place you should not miss.
  5. Enjoy the Local beaches. As most of the beaches in Croatia, you can enjoy here beautiful marble beaches, where the water is extremely clear and blue, so if the weather allows it you should definitely not only go for a swim, but also for snorkeling.
  6. Enjoy the Local Gastronomy. Delicious fish and seafood dishes, cevapicici, grill meat platter, pizza, soups, pancakes, these are only some examples of the extremly delicious dishes from the Croatian cuisine, that you should definitely try and enjoy.
  7. Sail around the City or to the Island Sveta Katarina. If you have the chance to, you should definitely sail around the city or to the Island Sveta Katarina, sailing will offer you another perspective of the island that will long not be forgotten.
  8. Go Kayaking or Snorkeling. You can decide to go kayaking around the city and enjoy it from the distance. Snorkeling is also a great activity which you should consider if the weather allows it.
  9. Go for a Fishing Tour. If you like fishing and if you also packed a certain dose of patience with you, then you can decide to go for a fishing tour. There is nothing more pleasant and fun than just fishing your dinner before enjoying it.
  10. Visit the Lim Fjord. Located not far away from Rovinj, the Lim Fjord will provide you with some wonderful views of the Adriatic Sea.
