Lifestyle: Oil Painting as a Hobby

Dear Alice,

Today I would like to present you some of my paintings that I made a couple of years ago. As you already know it by now, drawing is one of my hobbies, which I try to exercise as often as I can. I mostly like drawing either fantastic creatures such as dragons, fantastic horses, or pumas.

Occasionally I also like to draw landscapes, mostly using different drawing perspectives. My favorite drawing perspective when trying to reproduce landscapes with pen on paper is the one-view perspective, since I can produce with it amazing results! Of course, my drawings are not limited only to these two subjects, but at this point in my life 😀 these are the main area of interests concerning drawing for me.

And here it comes: along with drawing, I am also passionate about painting! Passionate about painting of flowers, and plants! Passionate about painting of abstract objects and sceneries! “But what kind of painting?”, you could ask 🙂 . That is a very good question indeed. And here is my answer to it: I mainly like watercolor painting, as there are so many techniques out there for mixing water and color so as to obtain magnificent effects! And there are so many unexplored techniques I can apply every time I start a new drawing to mix water and color so as to obtain one of a kind effects. Still, after watercolor painting, I also like oil painting! Oil painting of flowers, and of landscapes, oil painting of abstract objects and of creatures.

Whereas oil painting is more time consuming than water painting, I do appreciate its power of taking control of my mind and of my thoughts! Attention and details are the main weapons I have to arm myself when starting an oil painting.

The advantage of oil painting is the multitude of layers you can apply on the oil over and over again…until you get the desired output. Of course it could also prolong the time needed to really finish the painting itself, but that is the beauty in it: you never know when you are ready with it. Well the rule I use is as follows: When it’s ready, you will know it, as you cannot come up with any new ideas anymore.

I hope you enjoy the oil drawings I attached below, some of them I drew during the oil painting workshops or lectures I had here in Graz! Take care and cannot wait for our next encounter!

Sincerely yours,
madalina

“Aquatic Poppy-Seed Flowers”, Oil Painting on Canvas, Madalina Hodorog, 2013, Graz, Austria. This oil painting represents a bouquet of abstract poppy-seed flowers, which are imagined to live in an aquatic environment. The water and its blue color transmit the feeling of calmness and of purity, as opposed to the red color, which is the real color the poppy-seed flowers usually have.
